Internal Staff and Premises
As a micro business we will be carrying on business as usual. To help combat the spread of COVID-19, we've already started putting precautionary measures in place, including:
- Fully training staff on prevention steps
- Ensuring all staff wash their hands more frequently and thoroughly
- Cleaning high contact points more frequently with sanitising sprays Delphis Eco anti-bacterial sanitiser
- We do not have staff who have travelled to any of the affected regions
The threat posed by the COVID-19 Coronavirus has caused a significant surge in demand for hygiene products. We are experiencing shortages and increased lead times on a number of product lines where demand is outstripping supply.
Sanitising wet wipe products are in short supply we cannot get accurate delivery dates on back orders at this time, as supplies are being diverted to the NHS.
Some customers are rushing to stockpile toilet paper and paper towels, which has meant an increase in lead times. Recycled tissue products are in short supply, but more stocks are due.
The demand for face masks in China means that the government has revoked the export licenses of our PPE suppliers, hence a worldwide shortage of face masks and coveralls. Stock of disposable gloves, both vinyl and nitrile, is dwindling.
Many other items sourced from China and the Far East are in short supply as factories shut down world-wide for 2 months and many items have extended lead times or no stock due dates.
There are currently no issues with our stockholding or supply chain for most recycled office products manufactured in the EU. Please be assured that we are doing all we can to meet demand and provide continuity of supply to our loyal customers.
Carriers and Parcels
- UK parcel collection and delivery operation
All DPD Local and FedEx depots and hubs are working as normal and there are no closures. During covid-19 lockdown drivers are returning parcels if a business looks closed, so if someone is there but can't quickly get to the door, please put note on door to show you are open. The depots have been given the direction that they are to attempt the delivery one time to businesses and they are keeping to three times for residential addresses.
- Signing for parcels.
Carriers will no longer ask customers to sign our handheld units and instead our drivers will sign it on their behalf and take a photograph of the door to which it was delivered. They record the consignees name and a 'Delivered on Authority' message in the signature section of the unit. With this new process you will still get your full track and trace functionality, giving you complete visibility of all your parcels. This now forms our proof of delivery process for all deliveries until further notice.
If drivers deliver to a location where it is known someone has the virus, they will deliver the parcel to a safe place. If a safe place option is not permitted the parcel will be returned to the depot.
- DPD Local employees and owner drivers with the virus
At present DPD does not have any reported cases. DPD has issued detailed communications to all their workforce to ensure they are fully briefed on the latest situation. All advice is based on that issued by HM Government, which essentially says that we should continue to work.
DPD has issued detailed travel advice to all our people so they are aware of the latest information and know what to do if they have recently returned from abroad. DPD has advised all staff of the correct process to follow in the event they feel unwell or experience flu-like symptoms.
- Mail and parcels from China or other affected areas.
There is currently no evidence that you can catch Coronavirus from parcels and letters.
However serious a threat coronavirus poses, it’s important to retain perspective. There is no point succumbing to a fear pandemic before a disease pandemic has even taken hold. The vast majority of people who have had the illness have recovered. Children seem to be largely untouched. A vaccine is in the (admittently fairly long) pipeline. We know where the illness came from, and the situation in China is improving. The vast majority of cases are asymptomatic. You can kill it with antiseptic spray; science is all over it; clinical trials are under way. Pollution levels have plummeted. Every day, over 4,000 people lose their lives to TB, mostly in South-East Asia and Africa. Although coronavirus is a growing global threat, the number of people dying from it daily is currently much lower than from other infectious diseases — many of which are entirely preventable.
